RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

Crowns & Bridges

Custom restorations designed to strengthen damaged teeth or replace selected missing teeth while restoring function and appearance.

A crown or bridge is built to do real work in your mouth every day, so material, fit and bite are all planned together rather than treated as separate decisions.

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

Crowns & Bridges at Valencia Dental Office

Crowns and bridges are fixed restorations used to rebuild compromised teeth and restore gaps in the smile. A crown covers and protects an individual tooth, while a traditional bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by connecting the replacement tooth or teeth to supporting teeth or implants.

Because a crown or bridge is intended to last for years, the planning stage — impressions, bite records, material selection — matters as much as the appointment where it’s placed.

WHAT GOES INTO THE PLAN

Restoring Strength and Function

  • Protecting weakened structureA crown reinforces a tooth that has been significantly restored, cracked or treated with root canal therapy.
  • Replacing missing teethA bridge fills the space left by one or more missing teeth using the surrounding support.
  • Matching the biteThe final restoration is checked against your opposing teeth so it feels natural when you chew.
  • Material suited to locationFront teeth and back teeth often call for different material trade-offs between strength and appearance.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS

From Preparation to Final Placement

  1. EvaluationThe tooth, surrounding teeth and bite are assessed to determine the right restoration and material.
  2. PreparationThe tooth is shaped to receive the crown, or supporting teeth are prepared for a bridge.
  3. Digital scan or impressionRecords are taken and sent to a lab to fabricate the custom restoration.
  4. Fit and placementThe finished piece is checked for fit, contacts, bite and appearance before it’s permanently placed.
YOUR OPTIONS

What Crowns & Bridges Includes

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a custom cap that covers a weakened or extensively restored tooth. Crowns can restore shape, strength and function while protecting remaining tooth structure.

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia is a strong ceramic material used for many crowns, especially where durability is important. Modern zirconia options can also provide excellent aesthetics depending on the location and restoration design.

All Ceramic Crowns

All-ceramic crowns are metal-free restorations selected when natural translucency and colour matching are priorities. Material choice depends on the tooth position, bite forces and cosmetic goals.

Gold Crowns

Gold-alloy crowns are valued for strength, longevity and favourable wear characteristics. They are most often considered in less visible areas where function is the primary concern.

Traditional Bridges

A traditional bridge replaces a missing tooth by using crowns on teeth on both sides of the space to support a fixed replacement tooth.

Cantilever Bridges

A cantilever bridge is supported from one side of a missing-tooth space. It is used only in selected situations where the bite and supporting tooth make this design appropriate.

When to Schedule a Visit

Crowns may be considered for heavily restored, cracked, worn or root-canal-treated teeth. Bridges can replace selected missing teeth when the surrounding support and bite make them a good option.

  • A tooth has a large filling, crack, or has had root canal treatment
  • You are missing one or more teeth and want a fixed replacement option
  • An existing crown or bridge is worn, damaged or no longer fits well
  • You want to understand which crown or bridge material fits your situation

LIVING WITH YOUR RESTORATION

Everyday Care for Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are cared for like natural teeth — brushing, flossing (including under a bridge with the right tools) and routine checkups keep both the restoration and the supporting teeth healthy.

Grinding, clenching or biting down on very hard foods can shorten the life of any restoration, so let your dentist know about habits that might affect it.

Crowns & Bridges FAQ

What does crowns & bridges involve?
Crowns and bridges are fixed restorations used to rebuild compromised teeth and restore gaps in the smile. A crown covers and protects an individual tooth, while a traditional bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by connecting the replacement tooth or teeth to supporting teeth or implants.
How do I know whether this treatment is appropriate for me?
Crowns may be considered for heavily restored, cracked, worn or root-canal-treated teeth. Bridges can replace selected missing teeth when the surrounding support and bite make them a good option.
What should I expect from the treatment process?
The teeth and bite are evaluated to determine the appropriate restoration and material. Impressions or digital scans are used to fabricate the restoration, and the final crown or bridge is checked for fit, contacts, bite and appearance before placement.
How long do crowns and bridges typically last?
This depends on the material, location in the mouth, and how well it’s cared for; your dentist can discuss what to expect for your specific restoration.
Will a crown or bridge look natural?
Modern materials, especially all-ceramic and zirconia, are selected in part for how closely they match surrounding teeth.
Do I need a temporary crown while the permanent one is made?
In many cases, yes, since permanent restorations are typically fabricated by a lab and take time to complete.
What if my bridge or crown feels uneven when I bite down?
Let us know right away — bite adjustments are a normal part of finalizing a comfortable, functional restoration.
Can a bridge be used if I don’t want to consider implants?
Yes, a traditional or cantilever bridge uses your own surrounding teeth for support, as an alternative to an implant-supported option.
